July 2015 Addictions

August 6, 2015

The fact that it’s the beginning of August completely blows my mind.

July felt like it lasted a total of 4 seconds. I always expect summer to be really slow-moving and relaxing, but this summer has been go, go, go! Between settling into my new apartment, work, and other life events, the time completely vanished. All the craziness meant I religiously reached for a set of go-to products to make my morning routine a teensy bit faster.

Urban Decay Naked on the Run: I’ve had this palette since last Christmas when it was released, but honestly I never really got that into it. Just never really thought it was anything special. However, it became a staple for me this month because everything I need for a full face of makeup is all in one compact palette that I can quickly grab in the morning without thinking. Although it has a smaller range of shadows than other palettes, it includes both mattes and shimmers and definitely has everything you need to create daily looks. Having a bronzer, blush, and highlighter that work amazingly well together in the same palette as those neutral shadows made it so simple for me to create everyday looks without having to reach for anything else. I’ve grown to love this palette because it works so well with my fair skin tone. The cool brown shadow is secretly an amazing contour color, and the highlighter can be used to easily brighten up the lids.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone: I LOVE THIS HIGHLIGHTER. It’s like sweeping unicorn magic on my cheekbones, but totally glam. No one does a highlight like Becca, and we all know it. Moonstone is fabulous for us pale girls and definitely worth the splurge, especially if you’re on the strobing hype right now. Pretty sure all I hear about is strobing. Buuuut what I love using this for the most is an all-over lid color! It has a gorgeous sheen that makes me look wide awake on days when I got 3 hours of sleep (help me) the night before. I loooove using highlighters on my lid because the sheen is a foolproof way to make my green eyes pop!

L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara (Waterproof): I didn’t like this mascara at all at first, but it grew on me throughout the month, and I ended up reaching for it almost every day in July. It builds great length and volume, and the small wand is perfect for the lower lashes. I’m generally not a fan of plastic wands, but this one somehow got the job done. Is this my new HG mascara? No, but I’m sooo picky about mascaras that it’s a miracle when I find a new one to commit to for longer than a week. Bravo, L’Oreal! I’m still on the hunt though, so let me know any mascara recommendations you have!

Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Ink Pen Eyeliner: I never thought the day would come that I would set down my beloved NYC liquid liner. I’ve been using it religiously for years, and nothing measures up. Then I found this gem, recommended to me by a Target cashier. Her eyeliner was so on point, and I needed to know what that girl was using. Hence, this liner entered my life. Because it’s a felt tip pen, it creates a smooth wing effortlessly and more quickly than any other liner I’ve ever used. This is a staple for any girl who rocks a wing every day (me). However, it’s not as black or dramatic as my NYC liner, so that will forever be my HG, but I’m in love with this for everyday wear.

MAC Lipliner in Boldly Bare MAC Lipstick in Honey Love: Fave new lip combo. ADDICTED. This is the perfect everyday lip color that goes with literally everything. I have the hardest time finding neutral lipsticks that don’t wash me out or make me look like a dying ghost (that doesn’t even make sense), but heaven shined down and blessed me with this perfect combo. I don’t usually buy high-end lipsticks, but it’s so worth it to splurge a little if it’s on a high-quality product you will be using more days than not.

Sephora Luster Matte Long-Wear Lip Color in Nude Pink: Love this for when I want to be adventurous and wear a pink lip for a pop of color, but nothing too dramatic. It’s definitely not a “nude pink”… more of a bright pink on me. I love these lip colors because they dry matte, dry quickly, and stay on for hours. No fuss and perfect to throw in your purse!

And here we have the stars of the show. I’m OBSESSED with these two products. Both were new to me this month, but I haven’t stopped using them since I opened that beautiful Sephora package. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard all about both of these products already, so I’ll keep it brief. (Or briefer than I want…)

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop: I was expecting this to be complete perfection because anything created in collaboration with Jaclyn Hill is perfection, but I also wasn’t expecting to fall in love with this because I’m so picky about highlighters. Being fair has it’s struggles, and the highlight game is one of them. But I had to give it a try because Jaclyn Hill! Let me tell you, Champagne Pop is perfection in a pan. Liquid sunshine for my face. It makes me melt a little inside every time I use it. Once again, it’s perfect as an inner corner highlight or as an all-over lid color. Jaclyn Hill is QUEEN and will now get credit every time my highlight is on fleek.

Urban Decay Naked Smoky: (Second time gettin’ Naked this month! HA) I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. I love all my Naked palettes, but Naked Smoky is so up my alley, I cannot even tell you. I love the original Naked for its quality, pigmentation, and variety, but I’m really more attracted to cooler tones. Naked 2 is perfect for me because of the cooler tones, but the pigmentation and blendability of the shadows don’t live up to the original. Naked 3 is beautiful with its glam rose gold shades, but once again, I’m really just attracted to cooler tones. Hence, the perfection of Naked Smoky. Don’t be fooled – Naked Smoky is not just for nights out on the town when you want to work a killer, sexy smoky eye. I’ve been using this every day since I received it and have created tons of gorgeous everyday eye looks. I feel like this palette was created for me – perfectly cool, but not too cool, and perfect for smoky eyes – which are my absolute favorite. I wear smoky eyes to freakin’ Target. Combust is an incredible transition shade, and High and Thirteen are amazing highlight colors. There’s the perfect combination of mattes, shimmers, and satins, warm and cool. I love them all, but some of my favorites are Slanted, Smolder, and Whiskey. This might be my favorite Naked palette. Whaaaat! Crazy, I know, but I’m addicted to it.
