Butterbeer Recipe

If you’re a Harry Potter addict like me, or just obsessed with warm, delicious cups of goodness, then I’ve got a real treat for ya. I stumbled upon a great Butterbeer recipe on Pinterest last weekend, and with a few modifications, a miracle was born.

Unfortunately, I am everything but a fan of the “Butterbeer” at Harry Potter World. After being extremely excited to finally taste the magical drink I had been dreaming of for years, I was thoroughly disappointed when I tried my first mug of the beloved drink of the wizarding world. It was literally cream soda with foam on top. This recipe, however, is what Butterbeer is supposed to taste like – or at least a variation of it (it’s not as butterscotch-y as I imagined). This drink will warm your whole body from head to toe with its liquid-gold-deliciousness. If this isn’t the definition of divine, I don’t know what is. It’s perfect for a chilly winter day and ideal for curling up by the fire and having a Harry Potter movie marathon. Plus, there’s an allergy-friendly version!

Magical Butterbeer for Muggles

Regular Version:

1 Cup Full-Fat Milk

1 Tablespoon Butter

1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon Brown Sugar

2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract

2 Teaspoons Cinnamon

Dash of Nutmeg

1 Tablespoon French Vanilla Ice Cream

Whipped Cream

Butterscotch Sundae Syrup/ Caramel Syrup

Extra Dash of Cinnamon

Allergy-Friendly Alternative:

1 Cup Full Fat Coconut Milk

1 Tablespoon Earth Balance or Coconut Oil

1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon Coconut Sugar

2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract

2 Teaspoons Cinnamon

Dash of Nutmeg

1 Tablespoon So Delicious Dairy Free Almond Milk Vanilla Frozen Dessert

Coconut Milk Whipped Cream (1 Can Full Fat Coconut Milk, 1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup, 1 Teaspoon Vanilla)

1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup

Extra Dash of Cinnamon

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the butter/Earth Balance/coconut oil and the sugar. Stir the mixture until it blends together and you see large bubbles on the surface.
  2. Slowly add the milk and continue stirring the mixture while on medium-high heat. Add the vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until they are all incorporated.
  3. Finally, add the ice cream/frozen dessert, and continue to stir the mixture until everything is blended and the ice cream has melted.
  4. Turn off the heat and use a ladle to pour the Butterbeer into a festive mug. (It has to be festive! It will taste better if the mug is cute, I promise.)
  5. Add the whipped cream on top of the Butterbeer. Drizzle the butterscotch/caramel/or maple syrup on top of the whipped cream. Top it off with a dash of cinnamon and enjoy! Watch Harry Potter while drinking.

Directions for the Coconut Milk Whipped Cream:

  1. Refrigerate a can of coconut milk overnight.
  2. The next day, flip the can upside down, open it, pour out the liquid (you can save it for something else), and put the coconut cream from the bottom of the can into your mixing bowl.
  3. Beat the coconut cream, maple syrup, and vanilla until combined.
