Cozy Candles, Cozy Life

September 24, 2015

FALL IS OFFICIALLY HEREEEEE! Can you feel my excitement? The beginning of fall signifies many things, but perhaps the most important is that it’s time for CANDLE SHOPPING! I’m completely obsessed with candles. They change lives. I generally only bring them out during fall and winter, when the cool weather practically begs for a cozy candle glow paired with a warm scent to hug your soul. Candles have a magical ability to make everything feel calmer, and to make a house feel like a home. They’re just welcoming. I typically go through two candle rounds – fall and winter, AKA Thanksgiving & Christmas (the two most important days of the year). I cannot explain to you how ecstatic I am that it’s Candle Time Round 1. 92 days until Christmas! But who’s counting?

I spent my weekend stocking up on my autumn candle stash, (as well as yummy fall teas, but we’ll get there later) and I am beyond satisfied with this year’s collection. If you haven’t already guessed, it’s pretty much pumpkin-based. I’m addicted to pumpkin everything. If it tastes like pumpkin or it smells like pumpkin or it looks like pumpkin, I want it. I might have gone overboard with the pumpkin candles… Maybe. But they’re all different, I pinky swear! Plus, pumpkin can totally transition into the winter category as well, so I think that justifies the excessive pumpkin scents.

First stop? Beloved Bath & Body Works. I could live in that store. Confession time: I’ve secretly always dreamt of working there part-time so I could constantly be surrounded by delicious scents. We all know Bath & Body Works is the place to buy holiday candles, so I had to hit it up.

Pumpkin Pie

This is a must-have every fall season. It’s the classic pumpkin scent, straight up. No extra frills or flavors. If you like pumpkin, you need this in your life.

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

Things get a little intense with this one. It has a very sweet scent, leaning more toward the pecan-waffle side than the pumpkin. It’s waaay too sweet to be an everyday candle for me, but it’s perfect for cozy nights or early mornings when you want to feel like you’re in a warm bakery. It does make me hungry though, so be careful.

Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin

Again, this one is heavier on the cinnamon than the pumpkin, but they balance each other out perfectly. The cinnamon aroma creates a deeper, richer scent than the previous two candles. If you like cinnamon and heavier fragrances, this one’s a winner.

Vanilla Bean

Vanilla Bean is another classic, and it’s also a go-to for any time of the year. A warm vanilla scent is always soothing after a long, stressful day. If I’m ever feeling overwhelmed by all the pumpkin, vanilla is a great alternative for creating those cozy vibes. Divine.

Pumpkin Coconut

If I’m a pumpkin-head during fall, then I’m a coconut-head during summer. The smell, the taste…I’m a coconut fanatic. So obviously if a pumpkin-coconut combination of anything exists, I need to own it. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this because it does seem like a peculiar combo to me. And I still can’t really describe it. It smells reaaaaaaalllllyyy delicious, but I don’t think I would be able to pinpoint coconut and pumpkin specifically if I was blindfolded while smelling this. It’s one of those things where you smell it, it’s heavenly, and you’re like, “Oh, so that’s what that would smell like!” Either way, if you like pumpkin and coconut, you should invest. The woman at the store informed me it was her best-selling pumpkin candle, so snatch one before they sell out!

Autumn

Another deviation from the pumpkin obsession. Honestly, Autumn smells like a typical Bath & Body Works candle, like what you would expect from a candle store. It has a fall vibe, but it’s on the lighter, sweeter side of things. Whereas the pumpkin scents are somewhat dense and heavy like being curled up under a blanket on a chilly fall night, Autumn is like a brisk walk through the park with crunchy orange leaves falling around you.

Caramel Pumpkin Swirl

Ugh. This one is really dangerous. That delicious caramel scent is killer and makes my stomach growl, but it’s so worth it to feel like you’re swimming in yummy caramel pumpkin gooey goodness. Once again, you need to be in the mood for a very sweet scent for this, but if you are in that mood, it will definitely hit the spot.

I picked up these last two from the fabulous candle section at Target! If you haven’t explored Target’s candle selection, I would highly recommend it. It will convert you into a candle whore if you’re not already.

Tamarind Spice (Cannot find an online link for the life of me, but I promise it’s at Target!)

The perfect option for the non-pumpkin-obsessed! It smells exactly what it sounds like – warm spices. The scent is quite rich and has a very homey feel to it. When I smelled this candle in the store, all I could think was that this was the scent that would turn my unfinished apartment into an inviting home. If a scent could give a hug, it would be this one.

Cinnamon Pumpkin Muffin

YOU NEED THIS. NOW! Part of me doesn’t want to share my love for this candle with the rest of the world because I don’t want anyone else to buy it. It’s the perfect blend of cinnamon and pumpkin, and the scent is not sickeningly sweet like so many other food-flavored candles. There is a very slight muffin-like scent, but it’s just an undertone! This is honestly everything I could want in a fall candle. Just imagine bathing your senses in a delicious swirl of cinnamon and dreamy pumpkin while a freshly baked, moist muffin melts in your mouth…That’s what it feels like to smell this candle. You’re welcome.
