August Addictions 2015

September 9, 2015

Along with my sanity, August came and went very quickly. September will probably be over by the next time I blink, but I’ll deal with that if it happens. I’ve always thought of September as the awkward month. June, July, and August feel like summertime – sun-kissed skin, acai bowls, shopping, and exotic vacations. Then September comes. The weather enters a weird in-between stage and I don’t really know if I’m still in summer or if I’ve entered fall yet. Can I still buy a romper?! Should I wear my tall boots?! By the end of August I’m so ready for #TGIT, big cozy sweaters, and warm cups of Gingerbread tea. But that all feels like it’s meant for October, so I play the uncomfortable waiting game in September until it’s time for the real fun to start. The fall/winter transition, otherwise known as the holiday season, is EVERYTHING. IT’S WHAT I LIVE FOR. Sorry, putting a cap on the excitement until the holidays actually come. More on that obsession at a later date.

Back to the relevant topic – beauty products I was addicted to this month! Shockingly, most were recent discoveries. It’s always hard to compete with a girl’s long-time favorite products, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found some true gems to add to my HG stockpile.

Sephora Collection Pro Blending Brush #27

Never thought I would stray from MAC, Sigma, or Morphe for my go-to brush, but this blending brush is a dream. If I could only use one brush, it would be this one. Is that statement too strong? Amazing for the crease or to apply color all over the lids, and it blends everything seamlessly. This bad boy easily gets the job of 4 brushes done, no prob.

Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil

While searching for a quality drugstore option for my brows instead of my Brow Wiz, I stumbled across this pencil at Target. The problem with most drugstore products I’ve tried is that they all have a really warm, orange undertone. I like my brow products to be a cool tone because it’s much more natural-looking and flattering. This product is the perfect shade to fill in my brows, and I’ve been reaching for it over my Brow Wiz almost every day. I wish it had a spoolie brush on the end, but can’t win ’em all. The brow powder on the other side of the pencil is something I use on days when I want my brows to appear slightly darker, but it honestly doesn’t make that much of a difference. However, the pencil itself does a great job filling in my brows for a natural look, and it’s a no-brainer repurchase.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Finally got my hands on this, and I now understand the hype. This setting powder is a no-fail, bulletproof product. The powder is super smooth, silky, and finely milled, so it gets the job done splendidly. My undereye concealer will not crease if I use this, and it doesn’t give me an unattractive white cast like some other setting powders do. Yay!

theBalm NUDE ‘tude palette

Oh. My. Gosh. I don’t know how I ever lived without this. I picked this palette up on a whim when I saw it at the drugstore because I hardly ever see theBalm products in-store. I’ve been curious about this palette for years now, but never got around to ordering it online. Too long, too deprived. The pigmentation of these shadows is INCREDIBLE! I was seriously shocked. I have a ton of eyeshadow palettes, and I think this is the most pigmented of them all. The shadows blend together effortlessly, and the colors build so easily. Best of all, every color you could possible need is actually in the palette. It’s my pet peeve when there is not at least one highlight, transition, and dark shade (preferably black) in a palette, and this one has more than enough options. This palette has a great color selection for all skin tones, and it’s all you’ll need to make a zillion totally glam daytime or nighttime looks.

Makeup Geek Blush in Honeymoon

As my laziness peaked this month, I rekindled my love for this blush. It looks shimmery and a little eh in the pan, but it’s seriously the perfect everyday color for any skin tone. I hate any type of shimmer in my blush, but the sparkle you see in the pan isn’t noticeable at all once the product is applied to your face. This is my go-to on days when I only have time for one cheek/face product (I’ll miss you, Bronzer & Highlighter), because it somehow gives my face a magical glow worthy of a Honeymoon without any extra work.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Requiem

First of all, you can’t go wrong with Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks. They last allll day long, and life is oh-so-much easier when you don’t have to worry about reapplying your lip products. The pigmentation is b-e-a-utiful with a sexy matte finish. #Praise! I usually don’t gravitate toward lilac colors like this, but I found myself reaching for it a lot this month. It’s unique but not toooo over the top. Corals can sometimes be intimidating, but a cool lilac shade like this is the perfect compromise between bold and wearable.
